Explore the Natural Heritage of Ponass Lake Bison
Welcome to Ponass Lake Bison, the heartland of Rose Valley in eastern Saskatchewan, where the Connell family, steadfast custodians of nature's best red meat, have flourished since 1993. Our land tells a story deeper than our three-generation farm—no roses, no valleys, just the timeless spirit of bison.
Stewardship and Sustainability: A Legacy in Action
At Ponass Lake Bison, our mission is clear: to strengthen the bison industry with dedicated care and shared wisdom. With a vision of transforming marginal land into a source of high-protein, sustainable meat, we are committed to a "farm to fork" approach. It's a practice where the land nourishes the bison, and in return, they tend to it as natural stewards, minimizing our environmental footprint.
A History Rooted in Conservation
Our name is a tribute to the Ponass Lake Heritage Project—a vast expanse of 36 square miles, entrusted to us in partnership with Ducks Unlimited and the Ministry of Lands. This nature preserve is a living museum, committed to the protection of migratory paths and animal species. Amidst the rich pastures where our bison roam, ancient bison bones have emerged from the land, echoing the deep-rooted connection between these majestic creatures and the prairies they call home.
Join us at Ponass Lake Bison, where every herd's graze is a step towards preserving the land's heritage and securing a future where bison and nature thrive in harmony.

All High Plains Bison steaks are 100% Certified Bison—a quality seal that ensures production with strict ranching, animal welfare, food safety, and processing standards.
Never Ever Promise
High Plains Bison are raised the natural way – no growth hormones, antibiotics, steroids, or animal by-products, ever. We proudly adhere to strict, nationally recognized standards for animal welfare, ensuring a healthy life for our bison.
Chilled Exclusively By Air™
Our High Plains Bison products are lovingly crafted in small batches using our unique Chilled Exclusively by Air™ method. This special air-chilling process, instead of the usual liquid methods, locks in the delicious, natural flavors and tenderness, while also enhancing food safety.

Cook to Tenderness
Bison steaks are lean and will lose tenderness when cooked past medium. Even those who order beef well-done will prefer a medium-rare bison steak.
Check the Temperature
Trust your meat thermometer, not your eyes! Use a thermometer to cook your bison steak to the desired doneness.
Love it! Let it Rest
Allow the flavorful Juices to spread before you cut your steak. Let it rest for double the time of beef.
